-Landfill:
Disposing of waste by burying it. Some old fashioned landfills can be unsafe (windblown trash, leakage, pests: eg. rats). Most of the landfills from today are covered in a layer of clay or plastic before placing trash. The garbage is compacted to save room. Many landfills now also have gas extraction. Gas is pumped out of the landfill and used to produce electricity. <-- didn't know that before
-Energy Recovery:
Using waste as fuel. (eg. boilers and turbines)
-Incineration:
Burning waste. Turns into ash, gases, heat and steam. Produces pollution.
-Resource Recovery:
Known as recycling and re-using. (eg. melting plastic and shaping into something else like playground equipment)
-Avoidance and/or Reduction:
Making no/less garbage in first place. <-- smart
